Guerilla Suit

In 2009, Austin, Texas photographer Dave Mead traveled to Anchorage, Alaska to capture portraits of the 2009 World Beard and Mustache Championship contestants. The celebrated Magnificent Specimens will be on display at Chelsea Market in New York City, May 9 – June 30, 2010.

Dave asked both Guerilla Suit and Decoder Ring to help make this event a hairy success.  We were charged with marketing, consulting, promotion, social media, and installation. We partnered with our friends at Decoder Ring on production, and cutting and trimming the installation…while they concentrated on branding, look, and feel.

Between the giant mustache installation from an artist friend from Florence crafted from over 3,000 drinking straws, a custom photo booth, a bearded band (The Jordans), and electro cello player covering indie tunes, candy mustaches, killer photography, and 30 cases of Brooklyn Brew…we didn’t have to do much to make the opening fun. It was a total blast, and NYC now knows that Dave Mead has arrived.

The goal of this event and installation is to establish Dave Mead as a world class portrait photographer, to introduce epic bearded dudes into peoples lives and homes, and to work towards making this series of over 100 portraits into a radical coffee table book for all to enjoy.
